Color Crush | Red
One of the most dynamic colors in the spectrum, red captures attention. This crimson hue is the color of love, anger, passion, power, luck, heat, romance and danger and is recognized as a stimulant. There have been times that I’ve used the color abundantly in my homes, and times that only a hint of scarlet, carnelian, ruby or vermillion was needed to lift the mood of a room. Red is a fabulous accent color and can go a long way to adding a bit of pop to an otherwise drab space. While it has a reputation for being overpowering, red plays off of other colors nicely, and it is surprisingly neutral.
Carolyne Roehm is amazing a mixing a variety of shades of red together in floral arrangements. A La Cornue range with gold accents – stunning. Red is a stimulating color that can increase one’s appetite…so it’s perfect in the kitchen. Experts at the largest auction houses say that red is the most lucrative color in art.
A Cartier classic: the ruby. If you’re intimidated by this attention grabbing color, start with just a touch of crimson on the table – I love this red, white and blue tablescape. One of my favorite “shades” of cardinal by Baccarat.
Our scarlet friend may have a flair for drama, but this bold and beautiful hue plays nice and gets along surprisingly well with others. Always consider the color palette (all of the colors you will be using) in design when making color choices. The way that you mix colors together is significant and should never be underestimated.
