Breath life into a room with candles
Want a quick and easy way to update a space in your home? The glow of a flame combined with the color, scent, shape and size of a candle provides unlimited possibilities. Whether you want to make a dramatic or a subtle statement, candles are an inexpensive accessory suitable for every room, all occasions, and any decorating style.
The living room provides many areas for candles. On the mantle, place three or five pillars in varying heights, or taper candles in glass or metal candlestick holders. If it’s too hot for a fire, place a collection of pillars in the fireplace for a magical glow. The tops of coffee tables and end tables are great places to add some flickering light. When it’s family movie night, turn off the lamps and light a few votives instead. Also, consider using large pillars as bookends for a decorative flourish on bookcases.
If you have a separate dining room, using tall tapers is a no-brainer. How about candelabra on the sideboard? Even if you just have a dining table near or in the kitchen, candles are a wonderful addition for romantic dinners or special family meals. As a table centerpiece, cluster a group of votives on a flat tray or serving platter. Or try two or three pretty bowls of water on the table with tiny tea lights floating on the surface.
You already know that candlelight in the bedroom is very romantic. Placing scented votives around the room in beautiful containers on the nightstand, chest of drawers, windowsill or mantel is so soothing in the bedroom. Use candles to illuminate a room, create a feeling of warmth, add sparkle and shine to an area, or engulf a room in a heavenly scent.
For a spa experience, place scented candles around the bathroom during a long soak in the tub. Being surrounded by candlelight is a great way to relax or to have a romantic evening. You can choose bright colors to make a white bathroom more welcoming.
For drama, line the staircase with votives, which is especially stunning on a circular or spiral staircase. Decorating the foyer with candles is the perfect welcoming for entertaining family and friends. Candles on the foyer console table or in wall sconces also create a festive look.
Candles are a versatile way to decorate your home year-round. It only takes a little imagination to create a wonderful and inviting atmosphere!
