Prayers for Texas
It has been nearly a week since Hurricane Harvey made landfall in southeastern Texas, taking at least 39 lives. Torrential rainfall, destructive winds, and widespread flooding have driven over a million people out of their homes in our nation’s fourth largest city, Houston, and surrounding areas. The devastation is unimaginable and our hearts and prayers are with our fellow Americans as they begin to rebuild their lives. The images and accounts of this tragedy are heartbreaking and I know that most of us unaffected are searching for a way to help.
America the Beautiful
I have always been a proud American, but never more so than when our country is faced with a disaster such as Hurricane Harvey. The issues that divide us fade into the background and we rally around those who are suffering. Our best qualities – love, kindness, empathy, and generosity – rise to the surface. As Americans, we pitch in, volunteer, and open our wallets. If you are looking for a way to help, these organizations are currently providing support and accepting donations:
Here are a few images from the week via The Atlantic.
The Houston area is filled with incredible architecture, and I have a wonderful selection of photos from a few of my favorite houses in this amazing part of Texas. My goal in creating this blog was to provide a platform for sharing inspiration – including images of beautifully designed homes. I was planning to add these photos to this post, but I can’t bring myself to put them on the same page as the images above. Maybe that will be my next post. We’ll see if it feels right.
